Monster songs. Do we love or do we hate these ultra-long songs? For me, it depends on the arc of creative tension. I can do without very long songs that is just one semi-intellectual, orgasmic solo after the other….but as long as there is tension, and as long as the song manages to keep me in a state of trance…count me in! Creating a classic 90 minute mix tape with very long songs, all longer than 10 minutes is not that easy though; there are never more than 4 songs per tape side…and replacement options are always limited…far more difficult to create an interesting tape than with 2-3 minute songs. Main selection criterium: released on an official album (no live versions or remixes). This second tape has more of an experimental/electronic focus.
