4’33” Variations

And in the naked light I saw

ten thousand people, maybe more
people talking without speaking
people hearing without listening
people writing songs that voices never share
and no one dared
disturb the sound of silence

(Simon & Garfunkel, Sound of Silence)

Poems are songs without music; they follow a rhythm, a melody that is sometimes clear in the typography and sometimes only gradually reveals itself. I never played an instrument, or taught myself orchestration and arrangement, so I was never able to write a decent song (or even a horrible one). I did, however, write a lot. I even wrote a couple of pieces from a songwriting perspective. I will use this page for all of my silent songs; poems without music, stories about music, pieces of writing with a distinct melody and rhythm.
